# How to build your home page

The bands your home page is made of, and how to arrange them so it reads like an invitation.

*In the editor:* **Home page**

Your home page is a stack of bands. Each one can be dragged, hidden, or removed, and new ones added with **Add section**. Ready-made, it goes like this:

| Band | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| Hero banner | A large photograph with your line over it, and the button that matters most |
| Image with text | A sentence or two about who you are |
| Video banner | A short film of the room or the kitchen |
| Menu board | Your menu, in tabs — the centre of the page |
| Icon columns | Three or four short promises |
| Product carousel | A shelf of dishes that scrolls sideways |
| Image with text | Your head chef |
| Gallery | A wall of photographs |
| Testimonials | One review at a time |
| Book a table | The booking band |
| Social gallery | Your Instagram grid |
| Contact info | Where you are and when you are open |
| Map | A map that loads on request |

## Three rules that keep it looking right

1. **Alternate the colour schemes.** Every band has a **Color scheme** setting. Going Dark, Forest, Dark, Forest down the page keeps two bands from running into each other. If a page ever looks like one long slab, this is why.
2. **Put your menu high.** Most people arriving at a restaurant site want to know what you cook. The menu board is above the halfway point for a reason.
3. **Ask once, clearly.** One booking band on the home page, not three. The header button is already asking on every screen.

## The hero

This is the first thing anybody sees, so it is worth getting right.

- **Background image** — wide, and not too busy in the middle where the words go.
- **Image overlay** — darkens the photograph so the words stay readable. If your text is hard to read, raise this before you change anything else.
- **Height** — full screen is dramatic; large is friendlier on a phone, where full screen means nothing else is visible at all.

> **Words in bold turn orange**
>
>
>
> In any heading, text you make **bold** is drawn in your accent colour. That is how the two-tone headings through the theme are made — write the whole line, bold the two or three words you want to lift.

## Hiding a band instead of deleting it

Every band has an eye icon next to its name in the left-hand list. Click it to hide the band without losing anything you typed into it. Useful for a seasonal band — a Christmas menu, an August closure — that you want back later.

## Making a page of your own

The same bands are available on any page you create. Make a page, leave its template as the default, then in the editor use **Add section** to build it out of the same pieces the home page uses.

> Hero banner with a photograph of the private room, Image with text describing it, Icon columns for capacity and hours, a Gallery, and a Book a table band at the bottom. Five minutes, no new design needed.
